I had an interesting weekend, at least outwardly. I saw the Fabulous Thunderbirds in at the Fox Theater in Redwood City. Unfortunately, I was a couple decades too late. Well, I got there just a few minutes late but the band probably doesn't have the same chemistry it had a couple decades ago. I was thinking about seeing this concert for a long time and bought a ticket last minute, in the cheapest seats available. I spent a long time trying to figure out which seat to purchase while looking at the seating chart on the website and I could see there were a few loners sitting near me in that section. The mystery question I had was 'who are these people?' Another pressing question was where should I sit, seeing as how I was going alone? I think I chose wisely. Rather than taking the seat located directly between two groups of people, I sat in the row behind them. I noted that the two other loners on the seating chart were overweight women.
I left and came back after the opening act and the Fabulous Thunderbirds were just getting set up on the stage. Right before they started to play, the lead singer bounded onto the stage to everyone's applause while the other band kind of hung back the entire time.
Now I know what happened to David Knopfler. He's performing at the Fox Theater next weekend and that show is even cheaper. After paying $6 for a Bud Light and offering no tip, and not having a great time, I just don't think I can go to any more of these shows by myself.
But the weekend ended on a stronger note with the Pow-wow I went to on Sunday at Stanford with Doron and the girls. It was nice to have someone to go with, although I didn't do much besides walk around and eat things. I guess the highlight was getting nudged to the side by that girl I was attempting to speak with. She was just not interested in me beyond trying to sell me things. It was more interesting than just window (tent-window) shopping.
When I arrived at Tiki and Doron's house I tickled the girls more and played with them in the backyard a little. Ella wouldn't let me leave and tried to lock the door and block it physically, although she's only four. I had to pick her up and move her to the side just to leave.
